**Thematic analysis** is a qualitative research method aimed at understanding recurring patterns of content and meaning across a data set (e.g. a corpus of texts). Thematic analysis requires a high level of (self-)reflection as the researcher's own positionality is seminal in interpreting the data. Thematic analysis is often divided into six steps, from exploring the data to describing the results.

|
Voyant Tools are a collection of analytical tools for computational text analysis (also known as _distant reading_). Distant reading helps you get high-level insights into large corpora of text but can also encourage you to understand a small collection of texts in a new way. The focus is on finding patterns: Which words are most frequent? Which words co-occur throughout the text? How does the vocabulary used change in the course of a narrative?
